The Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs and Sugar Industry, Honourable Charan Jeath Singh, welcomed a courtesy visit from the newly appointed Indian High Commissioner to Fiji, His Excellency Suneet Mehta
Minister Singh provided an overview of Fijiโs sugar industry, outlining the governmentโs initiatives and plans for modernization. He also highlighted potential areas of collaboration between the two nations in fostering multi-ethnic affairs.
Their discussions focused on enhancing bilateral relations between Fiji and India, particularly in the areas of the sugar industry on modernizing the industry through the introduction of drones, farm machinery and strengthening sugar research through assistance in mobile soil testing laboratories and training of personnel through Indian Technical and Economic Corporation (ITEC) program by the Indian government. In the Multi-Ethnic areas, the discussion centered on the Digitalization of Girmit Records and the Construction of the Girmit Museum at the Girmit Center in Lautoka.
H.E. Suneet Mehta reaffirmed the strong ties between Fiji and India, expressing the Indian government’s commitment to addressing challenges within Fijiโs sugar industry and strengthening partnerships in multi-ethnic affairs.
