HOSTING OF THE 60TH INTERNATIONAL SUGAR ORGANIZATION WORKSHOP AND COUNCIL MEETING IN FIJI, AUGUST, 2022

Fiji is a member of the International Sugar Organization (ISO) together with other sugar producing countries around the globe. International Sugar Organization focuses on supporting and improving world sugar markets through exchange of knowledge and experiences amongst the eighty seven (87) member countries.

To facilitate the exchange and sharing of knowledge and experiences, the International Sugar Council Meetings are held twice a year. Fiji as a member of the ISO has been actively participating and contributing to the ISO Seminars and Council Meetings each year.

Fiji was appointed as the Vice Chairman of the Council for the year 2020-2021 and had been elected as the Chairman for the 2021-2022 during the 58^th ISO Council Meeting hosted (virtually) by Colombia.

Ministry of Sugar Industry organized and hosted the ISO conference at Tanoa Waterfront, Lautoka from 16^th – 17^th August, 2022. The event was held for two days whereby it was attended by all the stakeholders of the Sugar Industry and there were participants from various Ministries and other organizations. The meeting type was hybrid, virtually for international participants and face to face for the local delegates.

“As decision makers, we need to work together to maintain and improve sugarcane yields despite these here and now impacts on our growers”. This statement was made by Honourable Prime Minister, Mr. Frank Bainimarama while opening the 60^th International Sugar Organsaition Council Meeting and Workshop at Tanoa Waterfront on 16^th August, 2022.
