The Hon. Minister for Multi Ethnic Affairs & Sugar Industry; Mr. Charan Jeath Singh together with the Fiji delegation, visited the Mauritius Cane Industry Authority (MCIA) which provides support through research, assistance and close collaboration with all stakeholders in Mauritius.
The scientific arm of the Sugar industry has very similar research capabilities such as the Sugar Research Institute of Fiji (SRIF).
One of the key findings in this visit was the technology used by the MCIA to spread fertilizer and apply weedicide with use of Drones through satellites. The MCIA promotes and supports the sustainable development, efficiency and viability of the cane industry through research and investigation, ensure the technical progress and efficiency of the cane industry.
Minister Singh proposed a memorandum of understanding between the SRIF and MCIA and he later discussed with Mauritius Minister for Agro Industry for further collaboration and deployment of expertise to Fiji.
