Venue: South Pacific Fertilizers PTE Limited (SPFL) – LAUTOKA
The Government of Fiji received donation of another 720 tonnes of fertilizer from the Government of the People’s Republic of China on 11th November, 2022. This donation of Ammonium Sulphate will allow the South Pacific Fertilizer PTE Limited [SPFL] to blend and produce Blend C Fertilizer that will benefit not only 12,000 sugarcane farmers but also non-sugar agricultural farmers as well.
The Permanent Secretary for Sugar Industry, Mr. Yogesh J. Karan in his opening remarks stated that Fiji and China’s relationship continues to gain strength, benefitting the development and growth of Fiji’s economy as well as the livelihoods of the Fijian people. He also mentioned that this donation is not the first from China, also adding that it came at the right time, given the hike in world fertilizer prices post-Covid and the challenges inflicted by the Ukraine and Russia war.
“The timely donation by China is aiding the efforts of the Government of Fiji in ensuring the consistent supply of fertilizer for our growers,” Mr. Karan said.
China’s Ambassador to Fiji, His Excellency Mr. Qian Bo, said that Fiji and China are “all-weather friends” and the donation is a reflection of the proverb that a friend in need is a friend in deed.
“China will support Fiji in its efforts to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, Mr. Bo said.
SPFL Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Ashween Ram conveyed the company’s gratitude to the Government of China for its unwavering support over the years and also to the Fijian Government for always supporting the key objectives of the organization.
