The Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs and Sugar Industry, Hon. Charan Jeath Singh, has extended heartfelt appreciation to the Girmit Working Committee and its sub-committees for their tireless efforts in successfully organizing the 2025 Girmit Commemoration held at Subrail Park, Labasa.
Despite challenges brought on by adverse weather conditions, Minister Singh praised the committeeโs commitment and coordination, which ensured the three-day national event was delivered with dignity and cultural depth.
โDespite the bad weather, I think we did very well. We managed to organize the march and welcome the President for the opening, Hon. Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, and the Minister of External Affairs from India during the final day. I am sure they enjoyed our hospitality,โ the Minister said.
Minister Singh reassured that the event reached a broad audience through extensive media coverage, including live broadcasts via FBC, the Governmentโs official platforms, and the Ministryโs Facebook page which reached out to 224k audience turning in for live updates.
Minister Singh also expressed his sincere gratitude to the Commissioner Northern and all participating government ministries and departments, recognizing their active contributions through the Working Committee.
The special administrator for Labasa Town Council, Mr. Paul Jaduram thanked the government and the Ministry for bringing a National Girmit Commemoration for the North.
