A total of Fifty-Nine (59) Sugarcane farmers in Seaqaqa received the grant under the New Farmers/ Lease Premium Grant Program in Seaqaqa today.
While handing over the grants to the farmers, Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs and Sugar Industry Hon. Charan Jeath Singh reiterated the governmentโs unwavering commitment to the sugar industry, especially to securing land for sugarcane farming and helping the sugar Industry thrive by assisting farmers with land acquisition and lease renewal programs.
โThis initiative underscores our governmentโs dedication to ensuring that land tenure is not a barrier to agricultural progress,โ he said.
โThis initiative is not just about supporting new farmers but also about securing land tenure for existing farmers, allowing them to expand their operations and contribute to the long-term sustainability of the sugar industry,โ said Minister Singh.
Minister Singh said the government is not just investing in land but is investing in livelihoods, food security, and the future of our nation.
โThe future of our sugar industry depends on our ability to adapt, innovate, and create sustainable solutions for our farmers. The distribution of these grants today is a testament to our governmentโs unwavering commitment to ensuring that farmers have the necessary resources to thrive,โ he said.
Meanwhile, a recipient and sugarcane farmer, Mr. Aizleen Sheeral Shaukat Ali, expressed gratitude to the government and the Ministry of Sugar Industry for their ongoing support of the sugarcane farmers under this program which will help reduce operational costs on the farms.
“To all farmers, let’s unite with the government, work diligently on our farms, and boost cane production through this valuable support and assistance,” he said.
