The Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs and Sugar Industry Hon. Charan Jeath Singh handed over Multi-Ethnic Grants to 55 communities in the Western Division as part of the governmentโs vision to promote inclusivity and social cohesion.
While handing over the grants to the communities at the Girmit Centre in Lautoka yesterday, Minister Singh reiterated the Governmentโs vision of promoting unity through a social cohesion approach, with the overarching goal of creating diversity to build a stronger, more inclusive society.
โThe Governmentโs vision of inclusivity is reflected in these grants, which empower our diverse communities, encourage cultural exchange, and foster understanding. These grants will also empower and Strengthen Diverse Community Based Organizations, which will enhance their capabilities and promote their long-term sustainabilityโ, he said.
โThe grants will fund a variety of projects including water management, fencing, equipment, musical instruments, and renovations, among others. A total of 55 applications were approved amounting to $383, 900 for the Western Communities,โ said Hon. Singh.
Minister Singh further added that every application was treated with fairness, and only those that fell under the Ministryโs Grant Call criteria were granted approval to ensure a fair and transparent process.
Ravinesh Kumar, a representative from Tavua and a religious organization, expressed gratitude to the Ministry for their support in empowering faith-based organizations through the grant program.
“This is a significant moment for us as an organization, as no one in our previous generations has ever received such support. This assistance will play a crucial role in uniting our communities,” he said.
Uma Kumar, the 61-year-old from Kulukulu Sigatoka, a president of the womenโs club, shared the same sentiments, acknowledging the Coalition Government for its initiative and support towards such an organization which will empower them in preserving their culture and tradition, as well as empower the young generation.
