MINISTRY OF MULTI-ETHNIC AFFAIRS AND SUGAR INDUSTRY

Published on: August 30, 2024

The Ministry of Multi-Ethnic Affairs and Sugar Industry (MMEASI) is dedicated to promote a dynamic, prosperous, and socially cohesive society. To achieve this objective, MMEASI is calling for Expression of Interest (EOI) for grant-assistance aimed at supporting community-based (small to medium sized) projects. This initiative seeks to empower diverse communities, enhance skills, support cultural heritage, and facilitate active participation of all ethnic communities in development.

The grant assistance is planned to promote the MMEASI’s two strategic priorities:

  • Empower and Strengthen Diverse Community-Based Organisations (CBOs): This objective emphasis on developing the capabilities of CBOs that serve various ethnic communities. Grant-funding will support efforts to build the effectiveness and sustainability of these organisations, enabling them to better represent, inform, and serve the people of Fiji.
  • Promote Social Cohesion through Diverse Cultural Celebration and Activities: This objective will support projects that promote and preserve cultural diversity and strengthen social cohesion. Grants will support activities that bring communities together, advancing mutual understanding and respect through cultural, linguistic, and spiritual engagement.

The maximum grant threshold is $15,000 per project. However, applications demonstrating significant impact and requiring funding beyond this threshold may be considered on a case-by-case basis. MMEASI is encouraging registered CBOs to apply. The EOI will be open from 31st August to 4th October 2024.

Please note that the following will NOT be funded:

  • Initiatives that only benefits or supports an individual;
  • For-profit making activities;
  • Initiatives that do not align with MMEASI’s priority areas;
  • Work that has already been completed, debt repayment or debt servicing.
