Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs and Sugar Industry Hon. Charan Jeath Singh is in Brazil to explore new opportunities for growth, innovation and modernize Fijiโs sugarcane industry.
During the visit, Minister Singh, Permanent Secretary Mr. Yogesh Karan, and the Chairman for Fiji Sugar Cooperation Mr. Nitya Reddy had a productive meeting with Ms. Rosana Amadeu, President of CEISE Br (National Center for Sugarcane and Biofuel Industries), and a leading organization in Brazil dedicated to the advancement of the bioenergy sector.
The discussions centered on exploring potential collaborations and innovative solutions to address the challenges faced by Fijiโs sugar industry, exploring comprehensive solutions to set up a new sugar mill in Fiji, Strategies to boost sugarcane production, and the development of aviation fuel (Sustainable Aviation Fuel – SAF) as a second phase.
During the meeting, Minister Hon. Singh presented an overview of Fijiโs plans to establish a new sugar mill and enhance value addition through co-generation power, ethanol production, and refinery operations.
Exploring the opportunities for a partnership with CEISE Br and exposure to Brazilโs advanced technologies will present a tremendous opportunity for Fiji to learn new techniques and opportunities for the sugar industry.
The Diplomatic Mission was supported by Ceres Menin Flores, advisor to the Diplomatic Directorate of the Vice Presidency of the Republic; Antonio Junqueira, manager for Africa, Asia, Oceania, and the Middle East of the General Coordination of Bilateral Technical Cooperation at the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE), and Octavio Antonio Valsechi, advisor and consultant to ABC/MRE.
