To improve service delivery and communication within Fiji’s sugar Industry, the Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs and Sugar Industry, Hon. Charan Jeath Singh, today officially launched the Ministry’s first-ever 24/7 Toll-Free Customer Care Helpline-1569 for sugarcane farmers.

Speaking at the launch, Minister Singh emphasized that the new helpline is a direct response to the frustrations and challenges faced by sugarcane farmers over the years, from delayed responses to unclear service pathways.

“We’ve heard you. Farmers often face challenges, whether it’s delayed responses, being sent from one office to another, or not knowing who to turn to. This helpline will change that.” Said Hon. Singh

Minister Singh described the initiative as more than just a contact number, but as a commitment to transparency, responsiveness, and accountability.

“Let me be clear: this isn’t just a phone number—it’s a promise. A promise to streamline communication, enhance accountability, and make life easier for our farmers.” He said.

“To our farmers: I encourage you to use it. Share your concerns. Give feedback. Help us improve. To our institutions and ministry staff: Every call is a farmer’s livelihood. Treat it with the respect and urgency it deserves.” He said.

The sugarcane farmers will now be able to call the Ministry anytime, from anywhere, on any mobile network, to access support and lodge complaints through the new dedicated helpline on 1569. The toll-free helpline will operate around the clock, providing farmers across the country with a single, reliable point of contact for all sugar industry-related concerns. Calls will be answered by the Ministry staff who will log the issue, refer it to the appropriate stakeholder, and ensure that farmers receive a response within 24 hours.
