The Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs and Sugar Industry, Hon. Charan Jeath Singh, officiated the 2025 crushing season for the Rarawai Sugar Mill in Ba today.
In his address, Minister Hon. Singh acknowledged the milling challenges faced previously at Rarawai and, more recently, at the Lautoka Mill. Minister Singh emphasized that to avoid similar disruptions this season, the Rarawai Mill has undergone significant and targeted upgrades to improve reliability and efficiency.
โTo ensure that the Rarawai mill avoids similar disruptions this season, the mill has undergone significant and targeted upgradesโdemonstrating our long-term commitment to reliability and efficiency,โ he said.
One of the major enhancements undertaken this year was the complete overhaul of Boiler Number 4 by the Fiji Sugar Corporation (FSC), with all damaged components replaced. This upgrade is expected to improve air quality and boost operational safety within the mill.
โThese are not just technical repairsโthey are strategic investments in building a stronger, smarter mill that better serves our farmers and our community,” he said.
On the sustainability front, Rarawai Mill is also collaborating with Energy Fiji Limited (EFL) on the 132kV transmission line project. This initiative will contribute to a more robust national power grid, offering long-term benefits to the sugar industry and the wider economy.
